Photoblog: Sveti Naum, The Monastery On The Edge (Of The Macedonia/Albania Border)

Sveti Naum quite simply means ‘St Naum’. The internet tells me he’s the patron of people with illnesses and mental disorders and that his feast day is December 23rd, so unfortunately you’ll have to wait 361 days to celebrate him if you so wish, and that his main place of worship is Sveti Naum Monastery in Macedonia, near the border with Albania. Which is pretty fortunate seeing as that’s where I went in September and the place this photoblog is about.

If like me you’re coming from Ohrid, you have three main options; taxi (probably not *too* expensive, but the most expensive option here), bus, or boat. I went for the boat option (600 denar/about £8) – if you too decide to take this route, sit inside because it’s BLOODY FREEZING on deck. As with most tourists sites in Macedonia, it’s extremely cheap to enter. As long as you wrap up warm, it’s totally worth a visit. And this is why:
